OK. Let's get started with the fundamental stuff.
Apart from magic, psionics or Incarnum lies Metal. An untapped well of power and potential w8ing to be used by those who dare and can delve into its secrets. The first recorded use of Metal happened not so long ago, in cosmic terms at least, when a novice bard discovered a way to make his lute produce sounds that resembled electricity running through the instrument's strings. Though he was expelled from the bardic academy he was attending, he began writing songs for his new instrument which he gradually altered in shape and named: guitar or bass(for a modification with 4 strings). But when he played his songs in taverns, world shaking events happened until during his performance of: The Number of the Beast he was slain by a rampaging devil. His ways were carried on by his few students who eventually came to be known as the Sons of Steel. Thus Metal found its way into our world. In spite of various scholarly theories, one prevails to this day. That Metal is the true expression of music and feelings, a form of energy like magic that can, under circumstances, be unleashed upon the world.
